Reconstruction of SCR system successfully completed
Two-month works on Crosco’s jack-up drilling rig Labin were completed, which allowed Crosco to provide further drilling services to INAgip. The reconstructed rig, now having the capacity to perform in water depths up to 100 metres, might in the following months be engaged in exploration activities on Ilena and Ivana prospects, as well as in development drilling activities on IKA JZ field.
The two-month maintenance and servicing programme was done at the ”Uljanik” Shipyard in Pula and HELB performed the most extensive part of the reconstruction of the SCR system.
The reconstruction of the SCR system was necessary due to unfavourable reliability indicators such as safety, sufficiency and integrity of the existing island power system of the rig and the DC drive. Another reason for the reconstruction was the age and the wear-off of the equipment, which resulted in more faults, and the inability to buy the necessary spare parts. The reconstruction ensured the reliability of the rig, which is a crucial factor in the oil industry and also a precondition for a successful cooperation between Crosco and HELB.
More specifically, to ensure the safety of the rig HELB performed the reconstruction of the generator, transformer and rectifier panels and the 30-year-old equipment was replaced with the most up-to-date Siemens equipment. The GEM (Generator Engine Module) was replaced with new digital diesel engine and generator excitation speed regulators to ensure a more stable operation of the diesel generators. New DCM DC control modules were installed in rectifier fields, as well as new SINAMICS DC rectifiers in RT/TD (Rotary Table/Top Drive) rectifier panels that ensure a better regulation and a more stable operation of the drives powered by DC engines with serial excitation.
Complete operation and control of the system was transferred to the PLC technology S7-300 series, new control consoles were installed and communication between the drilling console and the PLC SIPLUS S7-300 was established via a redundant optical cable. The installed HMI 15” screen enables the supervision of the entire switchgear via SCADA system developed specifically for this rig.
This reconstruction was one of the most significant parts in the entire reconstruction of the rig, which enabled Crosco to obtain all the necessary permits.
