Record success in New Mexico

After the construction, testing and commissioning of the largest geothermal power plant in Europe (Velika 1, Croatia), HELB got the opportunity for a new challenge across the Atlantic, in the New Mexico, a federal state of USA.

Project in question is Cyrq Energy’s investment in Lightning Dock Geothermal. Cyrq Energy is a leader in renewable energy technology with geothermal, solar and storage facilities generating energy and under development in California, New Mexico, Utah, Oregon, Nevada, as well as Africa.

Following Turboden’s recommendation (Turboden being the main contractor), HELB’s four experts have independently performed all electrical testing at the geothermal power plant as well as generator synchronization (17 MW) in a record time, in 6 weeks and without the support of other companies. The 11 MW power plant has ORC technology, its source temperature is around 150 ° C, and the media is isobutane. The plant has been put into operation and final testing is currently being performed.

Despite cultural differences between employees there was an excellent relationship and an open discussion. Work was characterized by strong business activity and expediency. In New Mexico everything was different than in Croatia, from regulations and laws to machines, tools and mechanization as well as voltage and frequency, but there were no obstacles to success. All 80 employees on the project have shared a special common spirit of orientation towards the goal.
